Managing Fear of Dogs

Our Managing Fear of Dogs project is an extension to the hugely successful Be Dog Smart campaign, which teaches children and parents to stay safe around dogs.

Following a survey, we found that 37% of children are scared of dogs despite almost the same amount (33%) coming into contact with dogs every day. We have worked with child psychologist Dr Olivia Kenneally to provide some helpful, practical tips for parents and children to help manage this fear when out and about during the summer months.

We have also included advice from the Dogs Trust Behaviour team to help readers understand why a fearful child’s reaction to a dog can confuse our four-legged friends.
