Putting things into practice

Recently, Hayley our South Wales Youth Trainer visited a Brownie Group to talk about staying safe around dogs. The girls learnt about the times when you should really give a dog some space and they also learnt that some dogs can find different noises really scary. They then had a go at approaching Flapjack to learn how to safely meet a new dog. Just before home time, Daisy the 16 week old puppy arrived to collect one of the girls. This was a perfect opportunity for the girls to put things in to practice and they did so well. They all kept really quiet and approached Daisy slowly, asking if they could stroke her. After just a couple of strokes, we let Daisy have a wander around the room to explore her new surroundings and she sniffed every inch of it! Daisy was quite taken with Flapjack, she had a good sniff, then she copied him and then she settled on sitting next to him. The girls were so excited with our unexpected guest but really showed they had learnt lots about staying safe around dogs and not scaring them.
